Our Guiding Philosophy

Why?

I created this site for people like you and me, who want to be as prepared as possible for the next hurricane heading in our direction. As a husband, father of 4, and as an engineer, I have looked at this problem and tried all sorts of things in the real-world … having lived in Florida all my life.

Along the way I have found many things that worked, and many that did not. But I always kept trying to create as much safety (and comfort) for my wife, kids, and our house full of pets.

In the lead up to every hurricane we’ve gone through, it pains me to watch as intelligent people don’t stockpile basic food and water supplies, don’t put up shutters, and don’t prepare for long power outages. I’ve witnessed hundreds of people panic buying water, fuel, and plywood, with no rhyme or reason.

I have also seen the kind of damage that a 12 foot storm surge can do. Seen trees broken and twisted across the roads and homes in my own neighborhood. Lived for 6 days and nights in a power outage and boil water order.

My interest in this is so high that to my neighbors, coworkers, and friends, I become a sort of preparedness guide. After the hit we took here from the major hurricane Milton, I decided to help as many people as possible, so I started a podcast, website and wrote a book, all based on the direct experiences on myself, my family, and my friends.

My guiding principles:

  • Prioritize and follow the advice of official experts and authorities
  • Mindset is key to survival
  • Acknowledge the value of our emotional responses
  • Provide context to the presented informational content
  • Simplify simplify simplify, keeping the complexity to a minimum
  • Respect the reader’s viewpoint as we each face unique situations
  • Seek the most logical options
  • Empower good decision making
  • Always include practical action steps
  • Try to help others in the community
  • Survive to Thrive

Now is the best time to prepare, so get started.
